Hindu Dharma – Part 7

The other people are changing the minds of Hindus in all possible ways. From the newspaper “Vaarta” dated 07-02-1999, we would understand how much propaganda is being carried on through the teachings to the youngsters in schools and hospitals, where we consider education and medical treatment as great services. We are all thinking that it is service only but are unable to realise that its effect is pushing us in to a great danger. It is very much necessary to reform our schools and hospitals to patronize and encourage our own institutions. Every Hindu should become aware and observe as to why, other religions, even though there are people who are poor, uneducated and sick, suffering in their countries, are coming here and making available their services to us only, instead of serving their own people? We should understand the reason behind this and be careful about them, otherwise we cannot protect our dharma.

Terrible harm is being done to the Hindu from all sides. More than all these, the greater danger is the anti-Hindu secularism of our politicians. Secularism is the policy of our constitution. If it is properly implemented, we would be fortunate ones. But with the selfishness of politicians, this seculasism is becoming fatal to the Hindutva itself. Some Hindu dharma propagators went to a politician who was born as Hindu, to sell a book on Hindu dharma for one rupee. Immediately that politician told them that he was not a Hindu but secular one and refused to give even a single rupee. The same person, when people of other religion approached them for help to conduct a meeting of foreign religions preacher, offered them chairs, benches, clothes and money. That politician, by his action, had finally decided that secularism meant not helping the Hinduism but giving every thing to other religions. This kind of psychology only is dominant in politics.

If we express anguish for acts of injustice done to the Hindutva in our country, our own people say “Are we Hindus not in mejority? So everybody co-operates with minorities only. We Hindus who are in majority have to compromise and this is unavoidable.” When we give expression to our agony about the situation of the Hindus not being able to fulfill their duties of religions dharma in countries like Pakistan and places in our country like Kashmir and North. East states, other reply that the Hindus being in minority lack strength. So they have to adjust themselves; what kind of deplorable condition is this? Is it the fate of the Hindus to compromise and suffer whether they are in majority or minority? How horrible it is for a single religion to suffer in all situations? Whom we have to blame for this? The main reason for this is the absense of spirit of Hindutva in the Hindus, lack of unity among them and absense of their feeling that they are Hindus. The solution for all these problems is that a Hindu is to know himself as a Hindu and form as an integrated power. Whatever it may be, a Hindu should live as Hindu. for that proper effort should be made from our side.

Hindu Dharma – Part 6

Hindus do not know at all what is meant by “Hindu”. Except selfishness they do not see anything. If we say this, they try to defend themselves saying about breaking of coconuts in temple, getting their heads tonsured, worshipping and celebrating festivals etc. All those things are meant for fulfillment of their selfish desires by the grace of God and not actions for protecting the religion and its dharams. Visiting temples, chanting the God’s name in a group and taking prasadam (‘sanctified food offered to the God’) come under devotion. For those who does these things dangers caused by the other religions are not visible. If they can be made to believe that their selfish end would be fulfilled by others, they will change the God in one day and go to the Gods of other religions, so those only are not the solutions. The acts of injustice and atrocities to the Hindutva are being done, not due to lack of devotion but due to lack of earnestness in dharma. When people have serious interest in religious dharma, then it will be protected. We have to prepare such good people. The essence is that one should know certainly about the dharma and it is not our idea to give up devotion.

Devotees should tackle up protection of dharma. They should acquire the complete knowledge which enables them to give a fitting reply to the bad criticism of our Gods and dharmas. It is not good to be in a state where one cannot give reply if somebody adversely comments about ones worshipful deity. In a Shivalayam, when somebody was giving discourse on Lord Siva, one devotee of Lord Siva said like this. “Sir! one christian has commented that as to how our Siva who could not escape the influence of Shani, could protect the Hindus, unable to hear his comments, I came back”. Like wise, one devotee of Lord Rama was asked by people of other religions as to how he could protect the Hindus, when he himself could not save his wife and sought the help of monkeys and baboons. Both of these are great devotees of Hari and Hara. They considered the above comments as only meaningless and silly comments about their Gods and came away without giving any reply after listening. A youth who heard this started saying that how can a person who could not protect himself when nails were driven into his hands and legs, protect others. This is not proper. If we also talk like others, what is our value? We have to explain the inner meaning of the divine incarnations and the divine incidents. Such a person can defend and protect the dharma and not the one who keeps quiet. Some people go to the extreme extent saying that puranas told us somethings but all that might not be true and they to compromise themselves. Their attitude is that of inefficiency. This kind of community cannot protect its dharma for a long time. Weakness of the Hindus is the strength of non-Hindus. Their excessive selfishness is the root cause for the success of others actions. One person told us with a lot of anguish that the maid servant in their house quarrels for every thing and gets her things like coffee, food and others. But she says that she would not take foods offered offered to the Hindu God (prasadam), as this is prohibited by her religion. If that house holder gives her a fitting reply that what all is there in his house is the God’s prasadam and whatever they eat is the stuff offered first to the God, what would that maid servant do? She would simply take the food with murmur. But we do not say that. After listening to the above, some other person said that their maid servant would not take the brinjal curry for the reason that the coconut mixed in it was offered to our God. In fact, the family of that maid got converted to other religion, only a few years back. Such people instead of knowing about their new religion, learn first to blame and refuse our religion. There was a news item in Eenadu news paper dated 19-05-2004 that in Newyork, wigs made in India were getting burnt because it was their suspicion that these wigs were made out of the hair offered to the God of Tirupati in fulfillment of religious vows. This way while others are ready to give up anything for the sake of their religion, some of us are over enthusiastic about the food offered in the meetings of other religions and in getting our Gods blamed by others. After coming back from such meetings, these people too start criticising and blaming our religion and are getting ready for changing their religion also. If they know the value of our religion, this would not happen. But who is there to teach and explain these things to them? If they are explained about the value of protecting their dharma, there would definitely be good transformation in them.

Hindu Dharma – Part 4

Hindus are giving up their dharma out of sheer negligence, where they are in majority and out of fear and ineffectiveness in the area where they are in minority. It is doubtful how long our dharma can withstand in this condition. This what happens to us if we become minorities. In Jammu and Ladakh regions, Hindus have become minorities. Having migrated from those states to others, they are leading their lives miserably. Among these, there are the Hindus who denounced the Hindutva in the name of broad heart. Even those people were also driven out but nobody appreciated their broad hearts. Even thos did not bother about the dharmas of their religion but lived to earn lakhs of rupees as their ultimate aim, had also fled from their leaving there wealth. So we have to understand that, only when we can protect out dharma, we protect our dharma, we can live comfortably. The atrocities prepetrated on the Hindu woman in Jammu & Kashmir are intolerable. We saw in newspapers that those who molested the woman were writing their slogans on the thighs of woman. Had the hindus been in a strong position, would those women be subjected to such a fate? It has come to the Government records itself that one hundred temples were attacked and destroyed. How much destruction was there which did not come to record. Things are to be arranged properly, when lamp itself is still there. So it is good to wake up and search for the ways of protecting ourselves.

Unfortunately selfishness and money have become everything for us. There is no end for our thirst for money and selfshness. That has become the only aim for us. In that intoxication we are not in a position to bother about the society which is around us. See the trends of Christians and muslims who are living along with us. See the difference in them between our childhood and today. For them their religion is impotant. They are striving every moment for the development and publicity of their religion. While their religion is developing from day to day, our religion is declining day by day. In our subsequent generations, other religions may enter our families. Our minds are falling to a level of thinking that if money is there, it is enough for us and other misfortunes do not bother us.

Hindu Dharma – Part 3

However much social and financial power and expertise are used by the foreigners of other  religions for spread of their religions, all such religions were born from the experiences of people who were seekers of the truth and self. But the Hindu dharma is not man-made. You can also become a religious prophet, if you have the power and intelligence to preach and gather a society which can listen to you. Hindutva was not born in such manner. ‘Sanatanam’ means one that is not created by men.  Nobody knows when it was established and it is a permanent one. But his self – regard is not there among the Hindus. There is no anxiety for these people about the dangers faced by this dharma. The respective prophets of other religions by reforming the tradition of their respective countries. They are suitable for those respective people but not us. Our sages had told us what is proper for us. We have to follow this one only. Our dharmas had been told by the God in the form of the vedas in such away that they are applicable to all people at all times. While our dharmas and traditions are getting proved as permanent truths more and more by the physical science which is continuously developing, we are not able to recognise our values.  Only a person who knows the value of a thing, will be able to carefully protect it from getting destroyed. The main reason for the danger caused to the Hindu dharma is the ignorance of the Hindus being not aware that their religious dharmas are so great. With that objective only this book is written.

At present our sanatana dharma is plagued by several diseases. Out of these diseases, some have come due to internal reasons and some others have come from out side. For these diseases what ever treatment we can do, we have to do. If there is a disease to our body, we take care of it, otherwise it is a loss to us only. In medical science, the important rule is knowing about the reason for the disease. (‘Nidaname Pradhanam’). Nidanam means to know why the disease has come. We cannot do treatment with out knowing the reason for the disease so also for the affliction caused to our dharma. Knowing the reason there for is important. That is why we have to examine our problems from all angles. Please think over the truth in it with a patient mind. Think for good solution. Each one’s problem may be of special nature. Since we may not have that same problem, we should not keep quiet as un unconcerned with that but we have to understand the others’ problems also, so as to take care that those problems do not come to us.

Hindu Dharma – Part 2

If you observe the main features beloging to Hindu dharma, you will see – “Omkara moola mantradhyaha – Punarjanma sadasayah – Veda go pratima sevee” – It means a Hindu is the one who has Omkaram as the “moola mantra” (basic holy mantra for chanting) believes in the doctrine of punarjnama, has the nature of following good custom and practices, follows the Hindu literature like the Vedas, cow worship and worship of Idol. In this book, devine articles explaining each of these special features are written.

There is a comment about Hindu religion that we have several gods and there is no unity. The article on “Omkara” is an answer to that comment. All gods have originated from Omkaram. That is why before the worship of any deity, Omkaram has to be chanted first. By chanting omkaram, several healthy and spiritual benefits accrue to us. Please read the essay with the caption “Omkaram” which has all the things in totality. The one feture which only Hindu dharma has preached and other religions do not accept, is the doctrine of rebirth (‘punarjnma‘). In India and other countries, we are coming across several evidences which prove our doctrine as the real one. Foriegners, after conducting several researches are agreeing with this. Apart from the evidences in the ancient books, results of modern researches are also made know to you in this.

Next topic is “Sadacharam” (observance of good customs and traditions). From the times immemorial, our elders have been teaching us about several traditions. Those are the ones which gives us good health and longevity. If we leave then, it is our loss only, certain superstitious practices also have set in this Sadacharam during the course of time. It is our bad only if we practice them, simply because they were recommended by our elders. So we have to know which are the good pracices and which are the blind ones. The article on this Sadacharam contains as to how we can make our human birth (which is impossible to get) worthwhile, what are the methods and practices which are to be followed right from getting up from bed in the morning till we sleep in the night, the evidences there for in our dharma sastras, the health matters, spiritual behaviour implied in them and the significant principles of yoga, and health implied in “tilaka dharana” (putting a mark on the forehead).

Hindu Dharma – Part 1

I wish to inform you that I had written a book on Hindu Dharma in english and the same will be published here in this website as articles on a regular basis. In this process, the 1st part is here and the rest will be continued in the coming days – Author

“WHY THIS BOOK AT ALL?”

Hindu Dharma which has Omkaram as the source, is Sanatana. It implies that this dharma which is inaccessible to any research, is not known when it came into operation. Such a sanatana dharma (ageless righteousness or human ethics) is in a very critical stage today. It should be our main aim to protect such dharma. If we desire to qualify ourselves for that, we should first of all acquire full and complete knowledge about our dharma, its position, prospects and the important features. Hindu dharma’s glorious position is to be understood. Mainly we should know the way of practising dharma, practise it as much as we can, preach it to others and make them practise it. If we do that, we can develop our individuality to a great extent. We will be able to lead our family and also society in the path of dharma. By that we would be able to do lot of good to the society and through it to the country.
Some people think, after reading the biographies of Balagangadhara Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi and Prakasam pantulu who fought in the war of Independence, that had they been born in those days, they would have put in a lot of effort and earned lot of fame and that such an opportunity was not available to them in those days. Now, there is more excellent opportunity than that. Dharma had fallen in great danger. If we put in effort like the people above for protection of dharma, we get great fame not on this earth but, also salvation after our life. So come! Com forward, put in great effort and like another Swami Vivekananda sanctify the community and get your life fulfilled. Make best use of your life. If you want to do work, there is plenty of work. Participate in the war of Dharma’s independence. At one time pronouncing the word “Hindu” was considered as a problem; so also today the word “Hindu” has fallen into difficulty. Just as our country got insulted during the foreign rule, so also our Hindu Dharma is getting abused with the influence of other religions.
